Museum of Broken Relationships
In the fall of 2022, I worked with a team of students to design an interactive element for the Museum of Broken Relationships: Indianapolis exhibit which opened in the spring of 2023. Our team created a design consistent with the Museum of Broken Relationship's (MBR's) mission and goals, and took inspiration from other traveling MBR exhibits.
The final proposed interactive, "Pin It or Bin It," invited visitors to participate in the exhibit's unique experience by writing down their own story of heartbreak or a broken relationship at the beginning of the gallery and to carry that story with them physically throughout the space. After carrying their stories while they interacted with the other items in the gallery, visitors were then faced with a choice, much like the choice made by those who donate to MBR - to move forward by sharing their story with others (pin it), or to throw the story away (bin it). Throughout the course of the two and a half month exhibit, visitors continued to utilize the interactive and participate in the exhibit, leading to additional spaces to "pin it" being added and quickly filled.
